I bought a Simpson Genescope 480. It is a piece of electronic equipment that seems to have been designed for TV repair. It contains two oscillators and an oscilloscope. The manual is here. Mine is is OK condition. Inside, I see that a couple of bad repairs were make. Fortunately, it is easy to distinguish the original work from the repairs. The quality of construction is decent. It is similar to the construction of a good radio. It is much sloppier than, for example, an average Tektronix scope. However, it was made in 1952, and even Tektronix wasn't making things beautifully until the late 1950's. Anyway, I will attempt to power it up. As usual, the electrolytic capacitors are highly suspect, and will be hipotted and tested for capacitance before power-up. I still don't have an ESR meter. This is on my list of instruments to build, after a good tube tester. Anyway, I will post some photos of the Simpson Genescope 480. There is an interesting tuning element in one of the oscillators. I haven't had time yet to thoroughly check it out.
