The 12RS02 is a 8K RAM pack for the 1240 and 1241. It is meant to be used for storing settings and data.

The RAM pack stores settings using battery backed RAM. This battery is a potassium hydroxide electrolyte cell. It will eventually fail and leak, damaging the PCB.
