The 4050E01 is a ROM extender for the 4051, 4052, and 4054. The 4050E01 uses bank switching. The Motorola 6800 in the 4051 only had a 64K address space. The 4052 and 4054 have separate code and data spaces of 64K each, but still not enough for all the ROM packs in a flat address space.
