The General Radio GR-874X Insertion Unit is a tubular housing with GR-874 connectors on each end. The central housing has cutouts on the sides that allow custom components to be installed between the ends of the two central conductors and the housing. The available space is 1/2" in diameter and 2" long. A sliding sleeve covers the completed inner circuitry and is secured by a single screw.
The Tektronix 017-0030-00 appears to be similar.
