The Tektronix Type 532 is a 5 MHz oscilloscope introduced in 1955 which accepts letter-series and 1-series plug-ins. From the manual: "It is specially engineered to get extra dependability through circuit simplicity and conservative tube loading."
P2 phosphor was standard for the 532. P1, P7, and P11 were optional at no charge.
There is also a rack-mount version, the RM32. The 532 uses 475 watts and weighs 23.5 kg (52 pounds).
Some differences between the 532 and 531:
- The 532 has 5 MHz vertical bandwidth with a Type K plug-in; the 531 is 11 MHz with a Type K.
- The 532 has 8 cm vertical deflection; the 531 has 6 cm vertical deflection.
- The 532 CRT accelerating voltage is 4 kV; the 531 has 10 kV accelerating voltage.
- The 532 has no delay line; the 531 has a delay line
- The 532 has a very simple vertical amplifier; the 531 has output cathode followers, presumably to improve the frequency response. Lowering the output impedance of the amplifier raises the frequency of the pole formed by the capacitance of the vertical deflection plates with the output impedance of the vertical amplifier.
The 532 has a "GATE DELAY" knob and a "DELAYED GATE" output on the front panel. The DELAYED GATE output is a 20V positive pulse that is produced at a specified point during the sweep. The point is set by the "GATE DELAY" knob.
There is also a 532-S7 version, which has single-sweep mode.
The Tektronix 532 weighs 52 pounds without a plug-in. With a Type D installed, it consumes 475 watts.
