Lang Hedrick took over a lot of engineering support functions such as the switch design group. He was adamant that engineers should delegate as much of their design work as possible to the engineering support people.
In 1957 or 1958 Hedrick was leading a project to make a very high voltage (hundreds of volts or possibly a kilovolt) step generator for testing attenuators and probes. This instrument made use of hydrogen thyratrons. It was built and used internally for testing attenuators.
