I (User:Jadney) bought a 3A8 via ebay and it was in pretty bad condition. It turned out to be the exact same 3A8 that was originally pictured here on TekWiki. The basic cosmetics were good, but it had the following problems:

  1. One red front panel knob was missing. I found a replacement.
  2. One hold-down strap for the pair of Nuvistors was missing. I made a replacement.
  3. One resistor cut out of one opamp board. I bought a suitable replacement.
  4. The rear connector was gone. I found a replacement and installed it.
  5. Whoever took the rear connector, ripped out the wiring harness. I repaired and extended the rear 1/4 of that harness.
  6. One of the T-coil windings had been destroyed. I bought AWG 40 magnet wire and a manual coil winder (I'd always wanted one) and rewound it.
  7. Of course everything was dirty, so I cleaned and removed stickers.
