The Tektronix 2715 is a CATV spectrum analyzer which can perform In-Service Analog Carrier Measurements without disruption of service to subscribers. The 2715 provides accurate and automated measurement of carrier-to-noise, in-channel response, and coherent distortion signals as well as carrier levels, frequencies, and more … without removal of video carriers or modulation.

The 2715 has a frequency range of 9 kHz to 1.8 GHz which can be extended to 2.15 GHz with Opt. 50 or Opt. 75.. The minimum resolution bandwidth is 300 Hz, and provides measurement resolution proportional to the frequency accuracy or span. With non-volatile memory (NVRAM) at 124 kB can save up to 108 displays of waveforms and markers, and up to 36 front panel setups, large user-defined key programs, and antenna factor tables.

The single and delta markers provide direct readout of frequency and amplitude information of any point along any displayed trace. Or, get the relative (delta) frequency and amplitude information between any two points along any displayed trace or between traces.

The 2715 Cable TV Spectrum Analyzer has features to support the measurements necessary to maintain a functional CATV system like: Automatic positioning of visual aural carriers, Visual and aural carrier levels and frequencies for selected channels, Survey of system visual and aural carrier levels and frequencies, Depth of modulation, Aural carrier deviation measurement, Visual carrier-to-noise measurement, and Visual to carrier amplitude and frequency difference measurements.

Additional features include Digital Storage Display (selectable acquisition modes of positive peak only, positive/negative peak, Max hold, Waterfall, and an analog sweep when digital storage is off), Ensemble Averaging, Internal Preamp, Internal Calibrator (accessed through Input Menu), Alternate Reference Level Units (dBm, dBmV, dBV, dBµV, dBµW, and dBµV/m), User-Definable Power-on Status, Center Measure, Graticule Illumination (for CRT photography), and Direct Plot/Print (Printers via Opt. 03 GPIB, or RS-232-C interface via Opt. 08).

Front panel inputs/outputs are: RF INPUT, BNC connector (75 Ω, +20 dBm Max, 100 V DC blocking capacitor); and OPTION Unknown connector (Service manual only indicates that the front panel position is for a Future Option. No internal tracking generator was available like with the 2710, 2711, and 2712).

Rear panel inputs/outputs are: J101 Female SMA installed for Opt. 15; J102 EXT TRIG, BNC connector (10 kΩ, 50 V (DC + peak AC)); J103 female DB15 connector Accessory connector (Pin 1 EXTVIDEO, Pin 2 SWPGATE, Pin 3 Ground, Pin 4 SWP, Pin 5 LOGVID, Pin 6 CLK0, Pin 7 DATAI, Pin 8 DATAO, Pin 9 EXTGLATCH, Pin 10 26.38 MHz, Pin 11 VLVL, Pin 12 SWPSLOPE, Pin 13, 14, 15 Unused); J104 Opt. 03: GPIB connector (IEEE Std 488 connector) or Opt. 08: DB9 connector, Digital Communication Port - RS-232 interface
