Columbia Platform

All of the TDS500, TDS600 and TDS700 series oscilloscopes and the TLS216 logic scope are built on the Columbia platform, which consists of the chassis, display, power supply, front panel, processor system and skins, basically (for oscilloscopes) everything except the acquisition board which was mounted upside down in the bottom of the instrument.

Sony/Tektronix also built some signal generation products on this platform, such as the AWG500, AWG600, and AWG700 series. These use different CPUs, like the Intel 80486 series, however, not the Motorola 68000 family CPUs used in TDS500 / 600 / 700 scopes.

Many of the oscilloscopes share the same characteristic in this series.
