Goodfellow joined Tek in August 1950.  He had studied for four years with Dr. H.L.West of Stoke-on-Trent, England, a retired ceramics engineer.
He later spent five years making pottery and stoneware, as well as designing and building porcelain firing kilns for sale <ref>TekTalk October/November, 1953 (https://7vmc31.p3cdn1.secureserver.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/CeramicsDeptPeople_TekTalk_OctNov1953.jpg)</ref>.
