The 2N2207  (P/N 151-063,151-0063-00) is a germanium PNP transistor with

  • ft= 140 MHz
  • IC (max) = 50 mA
  • hfe (min) = 36

The 2N2207 is used in a variety of 1960s Tektronix equipment including the 3B1, 3B3, 3S76, 321A, and 547.

Due to tin whiskers growing inside the case, 2N2207s are a common source of problems on equipment of the period. For more information, see the Germanium transistors page.

In most (but not all) circuits, a failed 2N2207 can be replaced with a modern silicon PNP transistor. Such a replacement may need to involve several coupled transistors/diodes (see link for an example).
