The Tektronix 836 is a portable "programmable data communications tester" (serial protocol analyzer).
It adds a multiple string trigger function on top of the capabilities of sister models 834 and 835.
The lead software engineer and project manager for the 835 was Bill Randle. The 835 was developed in Redmond. Others on the project were Ken Spencer (software), Dennis Holmbo (hardware) and Andy ? (custom ASIC).
