It is intended for use as a stimulus for making measurements and produces a fixed-amplitude rectangular positive pulse waveform.

The amplitude control and pulse inhibit inputs at the front are designed to interface an AT5010 GPIB controlled attenuator, creating a GPIB-controlled variable amplitude pulse generator.

Key Specifications

Amplitude 25 V (specified into 50 Ω), adjustable ±5%
Rise time 350 ±50 ps
Pulse width 44 ±2 ns
Repetition rate 50 kHz ±10%
Pretrigger out 220 mV ±20% into 50 Ω, 115 ns ±25% before output
Inputs
  • Amplitude Control, front-panel Pin Tip jack / rear connector A15; −1.5 mA to −0.5 mA for 23.75 V to 26.25 V output; at less than −0.15 mA, the front-panel Variable Amplitude adjustment takes effect
  • Pulse Control, front-panel Pin Tip jack / rear connector B15; TTL low level inhibits output

Internals

The PG509 uses an avalanche transistor and charge line to generate the fast-rising output pulse. A voltage doubler fed by two series-connected 25 V mainframe windings provides +150 V for the avalanche stage.

Rear Interface

  • A15 − Amplitude control
  • B15 − Pulse inhibit
