Internals

The ADC is a successive-approximation type, consisting of an AD565 12-Bit DAC and a successive approximation register (AM25L04). The analog section is optically isolated and floating, supplied by a discretely implemented DC/DC converter. Instead of transmitting the 12 SAR result bits using optocouplers, the50M10 employs a second, identical SAR on the digital circuit side that runs synchronously with the one on the floating side that drives the DAC, thereby reducing the number of optocouplers needed to just three (clock, start, serial data).
