==GREAT Technical Reference Material for anyone working on any older TEKTRONIX SCOPE==
Find this publication in  the "TEKWiki Manuals Section", download, then read and follow the advice contained within.  "TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR OSCILLOSCOPE: Getting Down to Basics" 068-0315-00.  One thing that this book drives home is the fact that the technician should not immediately open the scope before doing a thorough evaluation of the instrument.  One should always try to learn as much as possible by working the control panel, observing the response of the instrument, studying the Service manual materials and using all the external controls and connections to their fullest; in order to determine the most likely section or "Block" of the scope that has failed. This is an easy to understand, yet powerful diagnostic aid.  I found that I would tend to dive into the scope, headfirst and before I went through the diagnostic process described in this publication.  This has helped me greatly as a novice or hobbyist level technician.
