The TekConnect interface was introduced in 2001 (superseding the TekProbe BNC interface).
Designed to overcome the maximum useable bandwidth of BNC connectors which is about 4 GHz, TekConnect uses a BMA connector, a blind-mate connector similar in size and performance to an SMA connector, but with a thread-less outer ground connection. This connector has adequate electrical performance up to at least 18 GHz.
Probe power and control signals are carried by spring-contact pins that mate with gold-plated pads on a small circuit board on the scope.
