The AMD Am2901 is a 4-bit CPU slice monolithic integrated circuit. The Am2901 combines a 4-bit ALU slice with sixteen 16 4-bit processor register slices. It implements arithmetic, binary, and bit-shifting operations.
The 2901 and some other chips in the family were second sourced by other manufacturers such as Motorola, Raytheon, Cypress Semiconductor, National Semiconductor, NEC, Thomson, and Signetics.
In the Soviet Union, the Am2900 family was manufactured as the 1804 series, with the Am2901 designated as КР1804ВС1 (transliterated: KR1804VS1).
