On February 1, 1965, Tektronix sent [[Media:Tek New PNs-2.1.65.pdf|a letter to all their customers]] to announce their new numbering system.
The change was also announced in [[Media:Service_Scope_31_Apr_1965.pdf|Service Scope 31, April 1965]].

From that day on, the old part numbering system was extended to a 3-digit product group prefix, a 4-digit part number and a 2-digit suffix, e.g. [[013-0013-00]] instead of 013-013.
 
The suffix can indicate a version of the component or assembly, a grade (quality or speed, see e.g. [[155-0078-00]]), a phosphor type (e.g. [[154-0644-05]] vs [[154-0644-09]]), or some other product variant.
It is typically -00 when unused. <br />The -99 suffix seems to be used for non-supported in-house products that were not designed to be released to the general public (e.g. [[067-0883-99]] or [[067-0701-99]]).
