The MOS Technology 6522 (P/N 156-1539-00) is a "Versatile Interface Adapter (VIA)" monolithic integrated circuit designed and manufactured by MOS Technology as an I/O port controller for the 6502 family of microprocessors.
The 6522 is similar to the Motorola 6820 with two timers and a shift register added.
It was second-sourced by a number of other companies.
