The Tektronix PS505 is a 3.0–5.5 V, 4 A power supply plug-in for the TM500 system.

It is designed to operate in the right-hand (high power) compartment of a TM504 or TM506.

In a low-power compartment, a rear switch limits the output to 1 A (indicated by front-panel "NON FLOATING / 1 A LIMIT" LED).

Key Specifications

Output voltage 3.0 V to 5.5 V DC, floating (only if operated in a high-power compartment)
Output current 4 A (must be limited to 1 A in a low-power compartment); foldback limit from 4.1 A to 1.5 A (latching)
Overvoltage protection 7 V
Line regulation ±10 mV for 10% line voltage change
Load regulation ±5 mV for 0.5 to 4 A load current change, 20 μs transient recovery
Stability and drift 0.1% + 5 mV drift in 8 hours; max. 0.01%/°C

The regulator circuit uses one 741 and one 5558 opamp. Reference is a 9 V zener.
